Since June 2022, the US State Department and US Trade Representative (USTR) have been working with countries in the Americas, including Barbados, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, and Mexico, to revise international trade models across borders. They are engaged in a series of discussions to achieve similar commitments as the International Platform on the Economy of the Future (IPEF), which was launched in May 2022.

The parties established the American Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP), which focuses on strengthening regional economic institutions and encouraging investment, ensuring sustainable and inclusive trade, creating jobs in clean energy and promoting environmental sustainability, and building a more resilient supply chain. Overall, these discussions seek to foster collaboration and cooperation among the participating countries to address economic challenges, promote sustainable development, and create opportunities for the people of the Americas.
